Perry Johansson is Research Assistant Professor at the David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University. Dr. Johansson is a Ph. D. and Privatdozent at Stockholm University. He has been a Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore and a visiting scholar at Columbia University. Recently his book Sinofilerna and an annotated translation to Swedish of Zhao Ziyang’s political memoirs were published in Swedish. His book, Saluting the Yellow Emperor, will appear on Brill in late 2011. Dr. Johansson has also published extensively in international academic journals and in edited research volumes. Among his current research projects is an investigation into how Western archaeology and collecting activities in China helped foster the development of a modern Chinese historical consciousness. Another project aims at rewriting the history of Maoism in Western Europe. Perry takes a special interest in teaching. He has an MA in education, and has taught at a number of universities, recently at the highly acclaimed liberal arts college Truman State University. In 2011 he is publishing an introduction to China’s history to be used as course literature at Swedish universities.

Perry Johansson är docent vid Stockholms universitet, doktor i kinesiska studier samt har magisterexamina i såväl historia som i lärande. Han har varit gästforskare vid Columbiauniversitetet i New York, Asia Research Institute vid National University of Singapore, Nordiska Centret för Asienstudier (NIAS) i Köpenhamn, Centrum för Kinastudier i Taipei samt Centrum för Stillahavsasienstudier vid Stockholms Universitet. Han har dessutom undervisat historia vid Truman State University i Missouri, USA, populärkultur vid Köpenhamns universitet, kinesiska vid Uppsala universitet, samt kinesisk politik vid Linköpings universitet. Sedan början av 1990-talet har han vistats regelbundet i Kina.
